Custom Indoor Aquaponics System

I am selling a custom built indoor aquaponics system with everything you need to operate and maintain this fascinating symbiotic ecosystem. The basic principle of aquaponics is that you can use fish waste as fertilizer for plants which in turn filter the water returning the fish tanks to provide clean water for the fish. This system has been a great science project and hobby but more importantly it has been a reliable, low maintenance way for my wife and I to have fresh produce and vegetables year round in Alaska. We are moving out of state and unfortunately will be unable to bring the system with.
We have successfully grown several varieties of lettuce, spinach, coriander (cilantro), bell peppers, poblano peppers, chile peppers, jalapenos and roma tomatoes. In general the system, especially when it was first establishing itself, did a little bit better with the leafy greens but as the system matured and with the help of some fish friendly plant nutrients (Liquid Seaweed, included with package) we had no problem growing peppers and tomatoes.
In addition to a fresh food source, this system could be used as a great educational tool to teach children (and adults!) how different elements in an ecosystem can interact in mutually beneficial ways. You can approach this system with as much scientific detail as you`d like. I have no formal scientific education or training and found the whole project surprisingly easy and incredibly rewarding. I wouldn`t consider myself an expert by any means but I would be happy to share what I know with the system`s new owners and point them towards some of the literature online that was helpful for me.
Included in this package are:
• 2x Hydrofarm FLT24 2-ft/ 4-Tube T5 Lighting Systems with Bulbs
• 4x Apollo Horticulture Adjustable Grow Light Rope Hangers (to easily adjust the height of the lights)
• 2x Plastic Grow Bed containers filled w/ mixture of red lava rock (on bottom 1/3) and Plan!T clay pebble growing medium (on top 2/3, came from two 45L bags)
• Custom built wooden housing
• Custom designed fill and drain plumbing with 4 levels of flow control and 2 bell siphons
• 35 gallon glass fish tank w/ custom installed splashguards, aquarium background print and aquarium gravel
• 9x happy and healthy goldfish 3-4" in body length
• Sunleaves 396 GPH DuraPump Submersible Water Pump
• Tetra Whisper Air Pump 20-40 Gallons model with air tubing and air stone
• Various aquarium decorations
• 2x 2-Outlet Heavy Duty Grounded Mechanical Timer w/ 15min interval granularity for lights and water pump
• Aquatop 100 Watt Submersible Heater (I never used, but might be handy if you plan on using in a colder part of the house or if switching to tropical fish)
• Aquatop 95 GPH Submersible Water Pump (for an emergency backup pump)
• API Freshwater Master Test Kit (not necessary to test but very useful, especially for educational applications)
• API Ammo Lock water detoxifier (removes chloramine from Anchorage tap water which will hurt fish)
• Maxicrop Liquid Seaweed Plus Iron (fish safe plant nutrient supplement)
• Fish Net, Gravel Vaccum and aquarium scrubber to keep tank presentable
• Plant Support Cage for taller fruit / veggie plants
I still have the original boxes and packaging for most of the items listed above and everything is in perfect working condition. If you care to take the time to research the various items and the costs associated with each you will see that I`ve invested a good deal more than I am asking for this system.
I know that the system looks like it could be tricky to move, but I designed it in a modular fashion so that it could be broken down into smaller parts for ease of transportation. Additionally, I have a truck and would consider assisting with the delivery and installation of the system if you are in the Anchorage area and offer the asking price.
