Aquaponics system

Several indoor home based aquaponics systems.

These are all custom systems that are designed to be run with aquarium fish and house plants. They offer beauty ambiance and the opportunity to experiment and learn about aquaponics . All the fun of aquarium and house plants plus more and 1/2 the maintenance. They can run with very little weekly input. When I get short on care taking time, my potted house plants suffer and aquaponics plants still thrive. One system ran for 2 years with one tank cleaning and water change. It supported 12 goldfish and two 6" koi in a 40gal ...and it thrived. Happy fish, extremely happy plants!!
I started with growing food such lettuce and basil like most folks but found that because of high light requirements of these eatable plants decided not to try it indoors. I switched over to house plants and have had great success with plants that have actually been selected to thrive in the indoor environment... go figure. That being said if you have a very large south facing window and use some supplemental artificial lighting you can grow leafy green veggies just fine - baby and micro greens is what I would recommend. system # 4 is large enough to grow serval if your really into eating you pets and plants. What I`ve found is that there are many more reasons to grow plants and care for fish than for food. Try it and I`ll bet you agree. Other horticulturists and aquaculturalists have figured this out as well. Still most aquaponics systems for the home are designed to grow food.
